Olivia Raya Scholarship Fund Olivia’s Story Olivia Raya was a bright, beautiful young woman who was treasured by her friends and loved by her family. Through her hard work and determination, Olivia achieved a great accomplishment: she received a bachelor of organizational communication degree at Rockhurst University’s mid-year commencement ceremony on Dec. 14, 2002. She earned her degree while working full time and serving as a volunteer for Catholic Charities. This was supposed to be Olivia’s first step in achieving her goals in life. Tragically, one week after she received her degree, Olivia was killed in her home. The Scholarship Olivia’s parents, Sylvia and Louis Raya, are proud of their daughter’s accomplishments, both in and out of the classroom. They decided to honor her memory with a scholarship to assist deserving women of Latino heritage. The Olivia Raya Scholarship Fund will help assist other young women to achieve their dreams of higher education. The scholarship will be given annually to a young woman who has many of the traits that made Olivia so remarkable — someone who is caring, intelligent, loving and giving.
